What are Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs)?

An Emergency Operations Center, abbreviates as EOC, is a physical or virtual space where the management of public health emergencies and occurrences are coordinated and handled by emergency management professionals. EOCs are especially important in high-density population centers as well as countries or areas with limited resources. EOCs operate most effectively when they are guided by an Incident Management System (IMS). The IMS protocols ensure that there is well-functioning order and proper direction of resources in emergency responses. This is best achieved by having a clear reporting and command structure. EOCs and IMSs are critical for cohesive and expedient recovery within the community after an emergency arises
